Mix old and new elements.

I’m a huge fan of mixing old and vintage items with the new and fresh. For instance, instead of using a standard vase for your cute little flowers or greenery, you could try using something a bit more unexpected and vintage-like, such as a flour sifter.

How cool would that be? Incorporate the old and the new by using your inner practical sense (I know you have it in you!). This way, you will rapidly shift your home’s appearance into that farmhouse style you’re dreaming of.

Avoid bright colors.

The same as with light-colored walls, make sure you avoid using lots of bright and crazy colors in your home decor, especially if you’re dreaming of a farmhouse look.

I know this could ruffle a couple of feathers, but trust me, neutral colors will instantly help you create a more calming and cozy feel in your home.

Most of the decor we’d recommend is full of neutrals, and we also advise you to avoid things that are red, orange, purple, and so on.

But like any other rule, if you know how to break it, it might actually work. If your favorite color is mentioned above, you could always mix in a little bit of this and a little bit of that, as long as it nicely blends into the atmosphere. Our suggestion would be to use those colors sparingly.
