Canned food
If you’re running out of room in your pantry or kitchen cabinets, don’t risk it by storing your extra canned food in the garage. The USDA says we should keep canned foods in a cool, dry location.
Most garages fail on both counts. A damp garage can cause tin cans to rust, and canned food stored in a garage hotter than 85 degrees runs the risk of going bad.
If you’re entirely out of space for your nonperishables, this could be an excellent time to reorganize your kitchen shelves.
Caulking or wall-patching compounds
You should avoid storing in your garage any type of wall patching or caulking compounds before the winter. According to an Ace Hardware spokesperson, leaving these products in your garage is something you’ll regret.
Both could freeze, and if they do, they become unusable, even if they will thaw out eventually.
