Books

In the same way that wood is impacted by humidity, the way that paper fibers respond will also cause spines to warp and pages to curl. This is also true for photo albums, magazines, and any other papers.

Humidity can also encourage mold. Unfortunately, paper is highly sensitive to becoming moldy when kept in the wrong conditions. So, it’s best to keep your books and other items made from paper away from your garage.

Propane tanks

This is one of the most important examples of things you should avoid storing in your garage! And it’s not just the garage. Propane tanks should NEVER be stored indoors.

If a tank springs a leak, your indoor space can fill up with gas and explode. So, we suggest storing it under your deck stairs, hidden from view, so that it has plenty of airflow to circulate any leaking gas.

And to be clear: Propane tanks are one of the things you should avoid storing in your garage, no matter the time of year.
