A spare fridge

If you’re trying to conserve energy, try not to keep a spare fridge in your garage. Refrigerators function at their best at temperatures between 65 and 78 degrees.

In the summertime, a non-climate-controlled garage can reach temperatures over 100 degrees, pushing it to work overtime to keep cool and run up your utility bills.

The refrigerator does no better in the winter either because its insulated doors can’t keep perishable foods from freezing.

Sleeping bags

Humidity and fluctuating temperatures aren’t ideal conditions for storing fabric. It can get moldy, and rodents would love nothing more than to chew it.

Stashing sleeping bags with other non-fabric camping supplies in the garage might sound tempting. But this is another item you should avoid storing in your garage!

You’re better off storing sleeping bags and other fabrics inside your home.
