7. Kentia Palm (Howea forsteriana)

Palm trees are the enduring symbol of tropical ecosystems, and you can easily grow yours indoors. The Kentia palm is a majestic plant that grows slowly but eventually can reach 40 feet high.

Its arching, erect, feather-like fronds feature green leaves that stretch up to 12 feet long. The fronds grow from a thin single trunk that matures from vivid green to dark brown. Towards the end of the year, you’ll see small, creamy white flowers blowing on spikes, which eventually give way to small, oval fruits.

The best time to plant a Kentia palm is in the spring. This tropical plant doesn’t need too much attention, so it’s great for beginners. Just make sure it gets filtered, bright sunlight.
