9. Aloe Vera
Chances are you already have an aloe vera plant in your house, and if you don’t, you should! This popular houseplant is especially known for its gel, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
But aloe vera is also excellent when it comes to purifying indoor air. In the same study by NASA, it was found that aloe vera absorbs benzene and formaldehyde, two main toxins found in a typical house.
In fact, the houseplant was proven to be pretty effective in constantly filtering out formaldehyde, which is known to seriously affect the respiratory system. Here’s something interesting about the aloe vera plant: when it absorbs high amounts of toxins found in the air, brown spots start to show on the leaves.
In other words, if you start noticing these spots in your aloe vera plant, don’t worry; it won’t die. Quite the opposite, in fact—your houseplant acts as a natural purifier, improving your respiratory health.
