5. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)
The ZZ plant is another easy-going plant that’s an ideal choice for beginners. It natively grows in East Africa, namely Tanzania and Zanzibar. These plants are also called Zanzibar gems due to their spotless, waxy leaves that can be so deep green that you can sometimes mistake them for artificial.
The ZZ plant comes with an easy care regimen and thrives in less-than-perfect conditions. This is the kind of houseplant that won’t be bothered by the occasional lack of attention from its owner.
It needs low to medium light and little water, and it can thrive happily even in spaces with mostly artificial light. Since the ZZ plant prefers its soil to dry completely between watering sessions, it’s best to do it as little as once a month.
