4. Burmese Python

If you are wondering how pythons ended up in the United States, we are here to tell you that people wanted them as pets, and this is the sole reason why. At this moment, this new invasive species thrives in Florida, where it managed to grow after these snakes escaped from the homes of their owners or were intentionally released.

Burmese pythons hunt local species like the Key Largo woodrat and compete for food with them. They also feed on native animals like indigo snakes. Tens of thousands of pythons are thought to live in the Florida Everglades alone, according to the United States Geological Service.

The populations have started to expand over the whole state of Florida, and new data from the Department of Agriculture indicates at least one Burmese python sighting in the wild in Georgia. These numbers are alarming, and the warmer temperatures do nothing but help this new invasive species spread.
