Do a routine cleaning on your garbage disposal
This one is probably a more unusual monthly home checklist point, but it is a very important one! Most of us have garbage disposals, yet not all of us end up cleaning them as often as we should! The best way to make sure that you are not going to have to clean or replace it because of accumulated debris is to do a routine clean at least once a month!
The easiest way to do it with items you have around your home is to clean them using white vinegar and baking soda. You need to put down in the sink a cup of baking soda, then add a cup of white wine vinegar (or any vinegar you have on hand) and let it sit for a while. After a couple of minutes, you should pour some hot water over it to clean the mixture.
To further remove the debris, fill the drain with ice cubes, add a cup of salt over it so that you can definitely clean the remains, and then put some halved lemons on top. Turn on the garbage disposal and let the water run at the same time so that you can thoroughly clean the machine, and you are done! It is not going to take you a long time, and the lemons are going to leave your kitchen smelling refreshing and clean!
