Winter months? Keep that snow in check and away from vents, oil-fill pipes, and meters
This one is more for the seasonal aspects of a monthly home checklist, but it is still an important one nonetheless. While snow shoveling wins the race for the biggest chore of the season, it is important that we do not only stop at the driveway and the path to the home when we are shoveling snow!
Outside vents should also be on your list of things to shovel, as they need to be clean so all the carbon monoxide is getting out of your home. It is a huge safety hazard if they end up being built into the house. You should always make it part of the monthly home checklist to make sure that all the vents from the furnace, dryer, and even water heater are not blocked during the winter months! Especially if you have just been in a snowstorm.
Likewise, all your electric and gas meters should be easily accessible, so you should clean the snow there too, along with having a clear path toward any fuel storage if you have the propane or oil company coming over with deliveries over the winter months!
If it seems like there are a lot of things to remember to check, maybe you should invest in a checklist board. This one from Amazon is fairly inexpensive and you can personalize it with all the checkpoints you want!
