Old cigarette smell
We’ve all heard of secondhand smoke, but there are new home odor problems regarding thirdhand smoke. This is the smell of old smoke that lingers in the air, like in a vacation rental or hotel room previously occupied by smokers.
With thirdhand smoke, the particles associated with tobacco combustion have fixed themselves onto surfaces, including tabletops, counters, and bed linen. And at least 11 carcinogens are linked with some of that dust.
Experts haven’t been able to determine how significant thirdhand smoke exposure truly is. But kids are at greatest risk by touching tables, rolling on the carpet, after which they stick their fingers in their mouths.
For this home odor problem, we recommend thoroughly cleaning places where you know smokers have been.
