Acerola (Malpighia glabra)
You may know acerolas as Barbados cherries. They are a type of cherry that is native to South America, Central America and Southern Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti, but they have since spread around the world and have also started to be cultivated in Texas.
This type of cherry is known as supergood, as one cherry has 30 times more vitamin C than citrus fruits!
Because they can easily adapt to a dry-air environment, they make for amazing indoor fruit trees, and you will be able to enjoy both the fruits during the summer and the gorgeous pink blossoms in the spring!
You will need to be able to provide it with a sunny spot during the warm months so that you will be able to get the best fruiting out of your tree, as the best ones occur in temperatures that run higher than 80°F.
