Fig (Ficus carica)
You may know the cousin of the fig tree, the Ficus genus. They make for amazing house plants, and they have been staples in our homes for years. However, the Carica species, which is the fig tree, can also make for an amazing house plant, but this one is going to be an indoor fruit tree that can also give us fruits.
The fig tree is generally one of the best indoor fruit trees you can get, as unless you live in a really dry place and the tree is kept in really dry conditions, it is almost never prone to diseases or pests like many other plants!
What’s more, you can easily end up enjoying the fruits of the tree faster than with other species. The fig tree will start fruiting when it is not even 12 inches tall, and you can easily gather the dark purple fruits from them.
One thing to be careful of is that over late fall if you keep them outside, they may end up losing all their leaves and going dormant. It is not dead, but you should not leave it on the balcony or on the patio in colder temperatures for long periods of time.
