Designers say these are the biggest home trends for the next year. Let’s take a look!

As another beautiful year is wrapping up, it seems like the perfect time to reflect on the last 12 months and get excited about what’s coming next. Home design is one of my favorite things to reflect on (I’m not a home improvement writer for nothing).

I love home trends or at least discussing them, so I wanted to talk to different designers about all the items, aesthetics, and decor pieces that will be a hit in the following year. At the end of the day, our homes are the places where we relax, regroup, and recharge our batteries. They’re our safe zones, so it makes sense to treat them to nice things, right?

Whether you want to make a few changes at home or just want to know what’s trendy in the following months, you’re at the right place. I’ve questioned over 130 designers, and here are some of the most common responses:

1. Discreet tech

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like having too many cords or gadgets lying around in my living room. It makes me feel crowded, and I prefer my space to be cozy and relaxing. If you’re like me, you’ll be happy to discover that one of the best home trends of the next year is discreet tech.

As gadgets continue to evolve, they will become even tinnier and more seamlessly integrated into our spaces. This means that you can quickly incorporate smart home devices in a way that doesn’t make your space feel too high-tech but creates a cohesive feel.

Whether it’s wireless charging furniture, hidden speakers, or voice- or smartphone-controlled lighting, these subtle touches will create a big difference while still maintaining a neat look.

2. Minimalist and cozy

This is my jam! I love minimalism, but not in the Kim Kardashian echoing house way. I don’t like having too many things on display, but I’m also not a fan of having a couch in the middle of the living room without any other furniture pieces.

So, in this case, a Scandinavian design paired with other lovely influential aesthetics is just what my home needs. Japandi, for example, is a gorgeous style that mixes natural fabrics, minimalism, and a neutral palette with cozy elements, such as warm lighting and soft textiles.

Add a few decor pieces you love, like photographs, lamps, throw pillows, or scented candles, and you’ll have a serene, cozy, but still breezy decor style. It will make you feel comfy and light as a feather at the same time; give it a try!

…If you want to take this home trend to the next level, use neutral-toned cushions and bamboo furniture to make the Japandi vibe even more special. If you love to read and want to get a new home for your books, here’s a bamboo bookcase that you’ll love!

3. Casual and comfy furniture

Comfy and casual furniture pieces are also part of these stunning home trends the following year. Designers predict people will embrace both comfort and style, so they’ll choose items like deep-seated chairs, oversized couches, and pieces with rounded edges. These provide style and relaxation and blend perfectly with any decor style, whether it’s traditional or modern.

…To make things more aesthetically pleasing and easier to clean, consider adding slipcovers. They are versatile, and you have a wide range of styles to choose from!

4. Vintage and retro influences

We can’t move forward without first looking back, right? Well, that’s exactly what these home trends encourage us to do—and I’m all in! If you’re like me and you want to bring a piece of the past into your home decor, I’m glad to tell you that retro styles are here and they want to stay.

Combined with a modern twist, retro styles are a perfect addition for anyone who wants to add a few decor items that will make them smile. Bold patterns, vintage furniture, and nostalgic pieces are fabulous opinions for any contemporary home. They add a sense of personality and history, and make the entire space look magazine-worthy.

For a well-balanced and unified style, combine modern and classic features. This way, you’ll create distinctive, eclectic interiors that stand out and tell a story.

…I love to scour antique shops and thrift stores for authentic vintage pieces that make my heart happy, and if I don’t like something, I can easily DIY them to fit my style. I recommend you try this method too. It’s easy, fun, and budget-friendly!

5. Pattern mixing

Another one of my favorites is pattern mixing. Designers predict this will be one of the most popular design trends, and for good reason. More of a timeless approach than a trend; actually, it has been getting more and more popular in the last couple of years.

Combining different patterns, textures, and colors creates a visually stimulating space that gives you energy and makes you feel happy. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t look kitschy or chaotic, as long as you balance the color schemes and pattern style. To keep things simple, you can choose a large-scale pattern as the main focus and complete it with smaller pattern accents to create a beautiful and harmonious environment.

…In case you don’t know where to start, you can choose three or four colors or patterns to mix and match without making your space look crowded. The result will leave you impressed! Who knew that you could completely change the look and feel of a room with a few tweaks here and there?

6. Statement lighting

These home trends are getting better and better, and I just love it! You’ve probably noticed that recently, lighting hasn’t been just functional—it’s more of a beautiful design element that can make or break your space’s ambiance.

If you choose gorgeous and contemporary lighting fixtures, for instance, such as sculptural lamps or oversized pendants, they’ll also double as magnificent decor items. If this is your style, try adding eye-catching light fixtures to highlight your room’s design even more. And if you’d love an extra touch, I suggest adding dimmable lights so you can adjust the mood of any room based on the time of day or how you feel.

…Designers suggest layering lighting to accentuate stunning focal points or architectural features in your room.

7. Jewel tones

Another home trend designers believe we’ll see more of is jewel tones. If you already have some pieces in these gorgeous tones, don’t put them away, because they’re still in. Nuances like sapphire blue, emerald green, and amethyst purple look incredible in several decor styles, making your space look extra luxurious and stylish.

Since they can add a sense of luxury to any room, they work amazingly as a focal point or accent. If you’re not a fan of the bold style but still want to incorporate this home trend into your decor scheme, opt for a few jewel tones and pair them with muted elements, like pastels and neutrals, to soften the overall look.

…In case you want to create a dramatic and more sophisticated look, experts recommend pairing jewel tones with some gorgeous metallic accents to create an even richer look.
