Palms

Those who suffer from allergies and own a male palm plant should question whether or not it’s because of the plant. If the answer is yes, then you might have to gift it to a less sensitive friend.

It’s true that not all palms bloom indoors, but the pollen can be very profuse in those that do. Moreover, only male plants produce pollen, so female palm plants are generally more tolerable. But keep in mind that even ladypalms aren’t as ladylike as you might tend to think!

Junipers

Even if it doesn’t always grow indoors, from time to time, juniper shows up in a home as a bonsai tree. Any bonsai junipers that are meant for indoor use should be female plants that don’t produce pollen cones, as juniper pollen is so fine and grows so easily that it could easily cause hay fever symptoms in half the population.

Sometimes, this also includes people who generally don’t suffer from allergies.
