Don’t add fabric softener to your cleaning towels.

I think this one goes without saying: any dryer sheets or fabric softeners that are added to the wash with your towels will not only make them smell like rainbows, but it will also cause them to leave streaks on paint and windows the next time you use them.

Don’t use a magic eraser to clean the car.

Magic erasers are wonderful at removing dirt and grime, but this doesn’t mean they shouldn’t stay very far away from most parts of the car. They are made from melamine foam, which is a type of abrasive material, meaning that they will not only remove dirt but also protective coatings from your car’s surfaces.

Vulnerable finishes like wax or clear coat on the paint are highly at risk with a Magic Eraser, even when it comes to tint on the windows. There’s a particular drying effect on such products, which could later strip away the natural oils from the paint.

Don’t wash your car with dish soap.

This is a big no-no, and it’s one of the most common mistakes I see people make. Dish soap is made to break down and remove grease, so it might strip any wax and paint sealant from the surfaces on your car.

Even if you “clean” the car, that dish soap will damage it more than you think, and it might even leave it with dull paint. Instead, we strongly recommend you use a dedicated car cleaning soap, which is much more effective and safe, especially on automotive finishes.
