7. Dieffenbachia

Here’s another group of plants you should never keep in the bedroom. Dieffenbachia is also known as mother-in-law’s tongue and dumb cane, which describes its toxicity when it’s ingested. Depending on the species of Dieffenbachia, the huge leaves are typically a combination of green, yellow, and white.

But while this plant may liven up your space by adding a jungle vibe, it’s better to keep it out of your bedroom. Its leaves and stems contain calcium oxalate, which can cause mild to moderate allergic symptoms if the plant is handled improperly or eaten. Calcium oxalate is a common biomineral found in plants, and it’s known to be toxic.
