Our bathrooms are supposed to be our oasis, our place to unwind after a long day. But we frequently overlook the bathroom’s overall look when we renovate and make small home changes. This mostly occurs because the entire restoration process costs a lot of money, and renovating the bathroom would require more funding.
However, I am here to help you manage this situation and do small bathroom upgrades that require no tools and no interior designer skills. Oh, and if you live in a rental apartment, the good part is that you don’t have to ask the landlord if they agree with the changes. See? Win-win!

Go for peel-and-stick wallpapers
…and for that, you won’t need to repaint and spend a ton on expensive paint. These days, peel-and-stick wallpaper comes in so many amazing varieties that it’s simple to use as a temporary character addition to a home. So why not use it in your bathroom too?
To lighten the mood a little, choose wallpaper with flowers or anything exotic, and add a few flower pots here and there. Pick your favorite from Amazon’s offer right here. Pretend to have a tiled floor
Installing fake flooring is probably one of my favorite small bathroom upgrades. Why? Because it’s so easy to do it on your own, and if you apply it correctly, nobody will even notice it’s fake! I even managed to fool my husband with this trick (haha).
Geometric tiles make a bold statement that might instantly improve an older bathroom floor. However, the price of an adhesive floor tile, installation not included, might reach $10. However, if the cost is overwhelming and your bathroom floor is quite large, you may simply follow the advice of interior designers, who suggest using a cut-to-fit vinyl floor covering in a stylish geometric tile pattern. These floor coverings come in a broad range of colors and are priced at $50 for one piece.
Get yourself a bathroom rug
A rug with a nonslip bottom is essential in any bathroom. However, it doesn’t have to have the same appearance as a standard bathroom rug. Options that resemble little rugs for the living room might give a boring bathroom floor a chic pop without breaking the bank!
Ugly pipes? Cover them up!
Your bathroom likely has an ugly floor-to-ceiling hot water pipe if your building was built before World War II. But let me tell you something a bit of rope around it will add both some character and insulation for the old pipes.
Switch out the outdated knobs
This is one of the small bathroom upgrades that will require you to have a wrench in your home. But don’t worry; you don’t have to have mechanical skills to use it. Replace your builder-grade vanity hardware with more fashionable knobs that match your interior decor.
If you rent, make sure you save the original knobs in a secure location so you can replace them before you go. The beautiful pulls may be taken with you to your next house, and you won’t be punished for making the small replacement.
Go big with the shower curtains
Another awesome trick you can do to improve the look of your bathroom with no tools is to tweak the shower curtains a bit. If you already have one, put it to work! Depending on its size and how big or small your bathroom space is, it would look nicer if you placed the bar a bit higher. Adding a shower curtain to the ceiling will not only add volume to the space but also be a nice way to show off.

Transform the vanity
If you already have a vanity in your bathroom that isn’t exactly appealing to the eye and you don’t have the necessary money to replace it, these lines are for you. Transform a basic and bland vanity with decorative panels pre-cut to fit the entire piece.
The other option is to use stick-and-peel wallpaper for the vanity doors and sides. Trust me, you won’t believe how nice it will turn out for just a few bucks.
Upgrade your mirror with a frame
Is your bathroom’s mirror meh and without any “life” in it? This trick that requires no tools is a nice and affordable addition to your bathroom look. Look for a peel-and-stick frame for mirrors, pick your favorite, and then get to work.
Re-vive your old mirror and make it look fresh and chic with a low budget.
Incorporate small luxury items
Although the bathroom isn’t exactly the place to go all out in terms of design, you may still make some smart improvements. Choose monogrammed towels, a small sculpture (if you have room for it), or a marble soap dispenser, according to interior designers. You won’t believe how simple it is to upgrade the appearance of your bathroom by just purchasing a fresh pair of towels in a color other than white.

Add plants
This is definitely one of those small bathroom upgrades that are super achievable and more importantly super affordable as well. Nothing makes a boring bathroom seem more cheerful than plants. They not only provide lovely splashes of color, but they also invigorate stagnant air and uplift depressed moods.
Just so you know, humidity and warmth are two things that plants that often grow in bathrooms adore. Do you have a weak hand? Try the aspidistra, mother-in-law’s tongue, and spider plant—all low-maintenance beauties.
Thrift some furniture
Do you need a bit more storage space for your bathroom without breaking your budget? Go visit some garage sales. The secondhand route will never disappoint, especially if you are looking for good-quality and durable furniture. For a bargain, you can score a nice mirror or some cabinets. Adding a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture to your bathroom can bring about a huge change.
Play with colors
Let your imagination run free and play with colors as much as possible. A bit of orange, a splash of blue, or a straight line of red won’t hurt anybody! For example, spray paint is a great way to add some style to a metal toilet paper holder. And don’t end right here! You may paint the pipes, the towel bar, or even the garbage can.
Alternatively, if you’d like, try matching complementary hues like yellow and purple or orange and blue. Think about the current fixtures in the room, such as the flooring, tile, and sink, before deciding on a new hue. It’s totally up to you whether you use this new color to paint the ceiling, stencil a distinctive design all over the walls, or create an accent wall.
