Do you have enough bathroom storage space?

While the kitchen is the soul of a house, we can’t deny that your bathroom isn’t important. It’s the place where you wind down in a warm bubble bath, take care of your teeth, maybe put on makeup, get ready for the day, do your skincare routine, catch up on news or your favorite shows (you know what I’m saying), and so many other things.

Considering how functional this room is, it’s important to have enough storage space. But having enough space doesn’t mean being surrounded by lots of shelves. Before you consider adding extra bathroom storage space, there are a couple of things you should consider: electrical tools, heat, and humidity. We want to make things simpler for you, so we’ve compiled a list of things to keep in mind when figuring out what to put in the bathroom:

1. Concealed doesn’t mean organized

I love closed storage space in any room because I’m one of those people who can’t stand looking at too many things in a room. However, this also comes with a cost: it makes me think that I can shove anything in there because if I don’t see it, it’s like it’s not even there. It took me a while to understand that being concealed doesn’t mean being organized, and if you make the same mistake I did, this is your sign to stop it.

If you want to have the most organized bathroom, take your time to put things in buckets, bags, baskets, and bins. For instance, I like to keep makeup in one bin, my skincare products in another one, my husband’s personal hygiene products in a basket, and so on.

2. What about closed bathroom storage?

Let’s go back to the closed storage because some experts say it looks better in a tiny bathroom. While some people love open shelving in the kitchen (it makes the room cozier and friendlier), it doesn’t look as good in a bathroom.

However, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t include open shelves in your bathroom, especially if that’s what you like, but if you have a smaller bathroom, having drawers and doors to hide the bits and bobs and all the necessary items will make your room seem breezier and more polished.

3. What are towels warmers for?

This one might sound confusing, I know. Towel warmers are for warming your towels, right? Well, not really. Here’s a hint: other names for towel warmers are drying racks, heated towel bars, and towel rails.

Even though they will warm your towels so you can enjoy a warm one after the shower, the true purpose of these goods is to dry your towels. Therefore, even if a towel warmer could appear like an extravagance, it serves a highly practical function. Speaking of that, if you’re looking for a simple and pretty towel warmer to add to your bathroom, here’s a good one for you.

4. Electrical outlet inside your cabinet

If you want to order a custom built-in cabinet to increase your bathroom storage space, don’t forget about an electrical outlet. It will make a huge difference, especially if you have a piece of electrical equipment that needs to be charged, such as toothbrushes, razors, etc. This way, you can store all those things out of the way and behind closed doors, along with their ugly cords.

5. Medicine shouldn’t be kept in the medicine cabinet

This sounds ironic, but it is true. One of the worst places to keep your much-needed medication is in your bathroom’s medicine cabinet. This is because many medications might become less effective in environments with heat and humidity, such as your shower and bath area.

6. Rods dry towels better than hooks

Of course, everyone chooses the best items for maximizing their bathroom storage space, but did you know that rods will dry towels way better than hooks? While hooks can be more suitable for little ones, since they’re more likely to hang up their towels on a hook rather than draping them neatly over a towel rod, in some cases, they might not do their job perfectly.

Speaking of that, if your bathroom doesn’t have any windows, a smart idea is to install towel bars. They help towels dry faster and reduce moisture buildup, keeping your bathroom fresh and mildew-free.

7. Don’t forget to disinfect your toilet brushes

You probably do what most people do when using a toilet brush: flush the toilet while rinsing the brush under running water. The issue is that this method isn’t very hygienic. Instead, disinfect the brush by soaking it in a bleach solution or using a dedicated cleaning product to ensure it’s properly sanitized, such as this one.

8. Don’t let your bath mat on the floor

One of my biggest pet peeves at home is when someone leaves a wet bath mat on the floor. It’s as annoying as wearing shoes indoors and worse than using multiple water glasses daily. In my opinion, a bath mat should only be used when taking a bath. Otherwise, a small rug or nothing at all keeps the bathroom looking neat. If you have a tub, hang the mat over the edge to dry. If not, consider installing a towel bar to increase bathroom storage space.

9. You need more towels within reach

Hand towels should be laundered every couple of days, and because I don’t think everyone in my family washes their hands with soap, I’m going to heed experts’ advice. Even better, I think that every member of the household needs a hand towel, which means that you need more bathroom storage space than you think.

In this case, hooks and rods are your friends, depending on how much available space you have. In the bathroom, damp towels serve as a haven for a variety of obnoxious germs. To make it simple to replace used hand towels with new ones, keep a stack of them in the bathroom.

10. Find the right spot for your hair dryer

Even though many bathrooms lack an electrical outlet for safety reasons, you can still make your space feel like a hotel by finding a special place for your hair dryer. Store it away from water in a charming basket, or a French net market bag, or use holsters or hooks designed for this purpose. This small touch will make your bathroom feel luxurious and organized.
